About 

My connection to nature began as a girl with days spent playing, exploring, and building in the woods behind my childhood home located west of Boston. The seeds for my inspiration were planted early and gratefully have grown to full bloom in my adulthood.

Spending time observing nature, metaphors can be made. Change is a constant theme; the seasons, birth, growth, persistence, adaptability, decay, and renewal. My emotional response to this cycle fuels my desire to make art. There is tenacity in seeing the tree firmly rooted and thriving on a rocky slope. The mist resting over the bog makes this familiar place appear softer, more magical. The worn and weathered shell takes on a different beauty in its evolved “wabi-sabi” form.

My process starts with daily explorations with my camera and sketchbook. Walks in familiar and foreign locations keep me engaged. I take many photos and do quick plein air studies that become the inspiration for new work completed back in the studio. I like the challenge of visual problem solving. Contemplating which techniques will best communicate my true intention for each new piece. I enjoy variety in both subject and method.  I work in acrylic, drawing, mixed media, and collage, among other creative pursuits.

My interest in art led me to earn a BA and M.Ed. in Art Education and I enjoyed years of teaching art in public schools, in north central Massachusetts, before relocating to Cape Cod in 2013. I have studied with Mary Moquin and Ed Chesnovitch and exhibit my work on the Cape and throughout the state. I have conducted workshops at various locations on Cape Cod and currently teach acrylic painting at the Sandwich Arts Alliance.
